Anti-Virus Prevx1?

Hi guys, I have been using the anti-virus software Prevx1 for a couple of days now. It seems to be a very effective programme, but I need independent advice on it. My worry is if it is a malware, its potential to harm is boundless as it scans all programmes executing on my computer and it even knows that I posted this question to Yahoo! Answers.

Prevx1 is a safe program. It is not any form of malware. I used it for quite some time. The only reason I uninstalled it was that it used a bit too many system resources (memory) for my computer. Otherwise I was quite pleased with the program.

BTW, Prevx1 is not a subsitute for traditional anti-virus and anti-spyware solutions on your computer. It is Intrusion Protection Software and should be used as an additional layer of defence alongside your regular malware protection.

I will agree with the last poster on one item, most of the anti virus programs do have issues with regards to security and that the free ones are not as good as the ones I have tested and paid for.

Zone's has it issues also, but she failied to mention it.

Your question was not about what was best but about Prevx.

I still have Prevx installed on my computer and yes there are some serious security questions. I installed it on a beta machine I do testing with, and the biggest issues from a security standpoint are that it automatically starts up and its not an easy thing to do shut off even through the registry.

The biiggest concern I have is that my hardware based firewall catches it's outgoing connection back to Prevx. Why does it need to do this beyond updating isn't something that I would put on a normal computer I use everyday. What info is being sent back ?

I don't allow software of any type to automatically connect to a server with out me saying yes.

If you can, test Prevx on a different machine. It has some good upsides, but I have found a lot of their tools for free elsewhere with out them pinging back the server to let you know that you're online and what ever else it sends.

if you have doubts about a anti-virus program ,there is certainly something wrong,you wouldnt let a person you didnt know look after your house while you went on holiday
there are endless amounts of avp(anti-virus programs) out there but only a few stand out to me as good programs
avast is a free avp and in my opinion the best,for these reasons 1)it takes little system resources(ram) 2)easy to install 3)regular updates 4)7 real time scanners ....network,internet,p2p,explorer ect 5)downloadable sheilds
i have been using this avp for 6 months now and i recommend it to lots of people as a first line of defense

before you install any avp you should do good research on the product and read all reveiws about the product,this way you know you are going to be safe on-line
i normally find the more you pay for a avp,the worst the product,as in the case of norton,their avp is a bag of xxxx,it slows down your system and takes ages to install,also it disables important security settings in windows,although these are reverseable
i wont give you any advice on prevx1 as i hope you are going to take some good advice and install avast,you wont regret it and you will notice a difference

Hi, Prevx1 is a good anti-virus, but it is not good enough. perhaps you can install Mcafee or Norton to protect your computer and remove the virus, but you need to pay for them.

I also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar, which can disable the virus to run in your browser, because the virus can only run on IE.

firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and spyware, adware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

Yes Prevx1 is not spyware but it should be used with caution and in conjunction with other antispyware/antivirus programmes. Prevx1 relies on heuristics to monitor your system and detect "suspicious" behaviour. Unfortunately, many bonafide antivirus and antispyware products contain modules that can trigger false alerts from products such as Prevx1. Similar free products that I have tested include Cyberhawk, Perfect Process and TaskPatrol

I agree with the first guy. You should remove it I have never heard of Prevx1. Its better you download AVG Free Edition rather than whatever that is.. It may contain malware.

when in doubt: remove it. There are plenty well known virusscanners out there, some even free. Like AVG, available from http://free.grisoft.com.
