they lay strips of eggs. they look like small white cocoons, and almost look like a plant when they are all bunched together.

Octopi (plural for octopus) lay eggs. The mother octopus is so dedicated to protecting the eggs that she does not eat. She gets so weak that she dies soon after they hatch.
