Has anyone went to school for Medical Transcriptionist?

Question

I am going back to school for Medical Transcriptionist and wanted some information about that kind of work. I have read alot...and I think I will like it but I am home schooling my son as well and I want to make sure that it want interfere with his lessons....can you tell me in detail what I would have to do.....like I said I have read about it but never have talked to anyone that was a Medical Transcriptionist...please give me any info you can...thanks so much

I took an at-home course for medical transcription through Education Direct (now Penn Foster) and I really enjoyed the course. I spent maybe 1 to 2 hours a day with the lessons and I completed in half the time that is alotted. I was offered a job before I was finished with my course and it was an at-home job as well.

A friend of mine does this for a living. It's demanding work; you'll need to know all the codes for insurance purposes and that can be a real challenge. One wrong code means someone might be denied benefits or pay too much... it's meticulous work. If you have a keen eye for detail, you certainly will like it because it's all about the details. Home schooling your son as well will be demanding on your time as well; however, since you don't mention his age, perhaps he will be able to work for longer periods independently on his studies while you do your studies as well.
