Do you have to look for anything special or anything like that?

Can I suggest riding or working with horses for a while before you go and buy one? There is enough to write a small novel on what to look for in a horse. Most places love voluntary help, and this way you can see for yourself the variations between individual horses, the difference between the breeds, and characteristics that show good or bad confirmation and temperments.

There are also horse brokers out there, and their job is to find you a horse that suits you, for a fee of course.

Some things you definately need to know when buying a horse-

*Physical soundness- Vets will do an overall check to ensure they are fit and healthy and able to do whatever it is you want to do with it.
*Training History/life experiences
*Any good/bad habits
*Likes or dislikes- eg: some horses can be picky about what food they eat
*Ask them to show you the horse-
picking up their feet, leading, backing up, putting gear on, catching them in the paddock, how they feel about having a finger put in the side of their mouth (this will show you how easy they are to worm).
*Get references of the owner-eg vet, farrier.
*See them ride the horse first, and if you are comfortable, hop on yourself.

All these things outline what you should typically do when looking at a horse to buy. I'm not saying anything about what the temperment of the horse should be like, because that is more of a personal choice based on experience. May I suggest though, that if it's your first time owning a horse that you get one that is advertised as "quiet". Don't go for one that says "experienced rider required" or "still a bit green". These phrases suggest more work, and even if you are experienced at riding, it is a whole new experience to being solely responsible for your own horse.

Good Luck:)

Buy from someone who has kids riding the horse or has spent a lot of time riding the horse. That way the horse should be gentle and easy-going. Just as a suggestion you should look at Quarter Horses as they don't tend to be aggressive or wild. Older Quarter horses if trained and ridden a lot tend to literally be bomb proof. Make sure you bring a vet or an experienced horse owner. Good Luck!

may i recommend doing a LOT of research before you even think about buying or looking at a horse for that matter. study on horse breeds with their expected temperament and what type of rider or style of riding they are good for. books and vets are an excellent source of what to look for when you are finally ready to go see the horses and always get second opinion of the horses temperament, conformation and health!

yes you do have to look for special one because if you are a beginner at riding you look for a horse that is not high spirited and young!!!like look for one that has been riden for a while!!

it depends on what your plans are for the horse.
there are lots of things to look for to see if he/she is healthy.
it's kind of pricey, but i would have a vet check the horse before you by it. they check their eyes, ears, teeth, coat, hoofs, listen to the heart, and movement of the digestive system, check their legs, do x-rays. all kind of things could be wrong with it, without you knowing about it.

Work with your trainer, if you don't have one...get one. Take a horse person with you that you trust. They can tell you more, research research research.
