I know what you mean - it does have a strange twisted appeal to it - the shop I used to work at had a pair of 2 foot silver arowanas, which were given the occasional goldfish, though it was more impressive watching the arowanas hunt than entertaining, and you had to feel sorry for the goldfish.
Tetras, minnows etc. are different, and are too small to not be used for cichlids and the like - however, live fish are not recommended to make up the entirety of a fish diet.

there is nothing wrong with doing this, except that it is dangerous to your predatory fishes because the feeder goldfish tend to carry a lot of parasites that can cause numerous diseases to your predatory fish. I'd suggest raising your own guppies or breeding an easy cichlid like convicts just to use the fry as feeders.

NATURE IS NATURE - watch the discovery channel OR create it?. Not much different to T.V really. Why after depriving a natural habitat, deny a natural Diet. Fish colour up much better with natural food than products.
SO ENJOY keeping things 'el naturale'
Happy feeding

Never watched carnivorous fish hunt down its dinner, but I did watch my sister's boa constrictor catch and eat a mouse. Very interesting.

I love predators in general. That's why I keep snakes. I had a Jack Dempsey Years ago that ate feeder goldfish. It was great.

I had piranas when I was a kid. I thought it would be fun. However seeing a goldfish get its face bit off cured me of that notion. Eventually I subconsciousl perhaps starved him to death. He wouldn't change his evil ways and eat the shrimp and fish sticks I provided for him.

No, yet I worked in a puppy shop whilst i replaced into in college, and human beings used to return in and purchase quite some feeder animals. I consistently felt somewhat in charge and unhappy approximately advertising them because of the fact i'm somewhat soft-hearted whilst it is composed of animals. i finished feeling so sorry for the mice the day that a mouse bit me so problematic that it bit each and every of how with the aid of my thumbnail. of direction, i assume in line with possibility it observed the writing on the wall and figured I deserved to be punished. : )
