It's 10 or nothing for me. :) I put a lot of thought into what I write. And if the question needs some research I will dig and dig until I find the best answer. Too many people use these questions and answers as a hit and run. Many times they will give the correct answer but not explain where it comes from. Or the petty ones will cite a source but not give a brief synopsis.

I go for both, the 2 points and the "10ers", because if I can get 2 points for answering a question as well as I can, that could mean my answer would be picked as the best one later on, which would get me 10 points.

It just depends. No matter what though if you at least answer a question then you get 2 points. It's then up to the asker (or a community vote) who they want to put up as Best Answerer. Then that person gets the 10 points.

It depends on how hard I try to answer the question. If it's already been answered, I just answer it for fun and be happy with the 2 points. If I'm the 1st I try to give the best answer with the most detail.

To me its not about the points, I like to look at that little chart on the right hand side that says the percentage of best answers I got. Because what do the points get you? Its not like those little tickets at the arcade where you can cash them in for little pieces of gum or plastic guys with parchutes! But I think its interesting to see the percentage of best answers people get!

I answer to the best of my ability. Truthfully. I don't skimp on my answers just because somebody already answered well and I don't think I'll get best answer. People ask questions because they want answers and I feel that we can get more out of see alot of different opinions than we can from picking out one person's opinion to go with. So for that reason I give my personal best answer whether I think I have a shot at "best answer" or not.
i.e. I answer to help people not just for points.

I don't really do this for the points I like to try to help people if I can. And on occasion I like to go to jokes and riddles for a laugh.

well if its one of those questions that say "i'll give u 10 pts.." thats what i go for....but its mainly just the 2 pts..i enjoy answering some questions
