10 gallon glass tank set up will be fine.. make sure the sand is twice as deep as the crabs are tall including shells and that there is a sloid lid with lights and the temps and humidity is kept properly.. 76-82 degrees F and 75%-85% relative humidity.

as far as what stevewbcanada said.. he is completly 110% wrong and has no lcue what he is talking about.. both marine and land hermit crabs get along quite well in the wild and in captivity in fact it is a must that the crabs are housed in the same tank and if one is looking into getting hermit crabs it is insisted that they get more than one because in the wild they live in colonies of 100 and more. They are called hermits NOT because they like to be alone! But because they carry their shell home on their backs and only they can be inside of it, alone. stevewbcanada
you need to do some researching before you answer questions that you have no clue about answering. If you have any experience with these creatures then you would know for a fact.. and if you did have problems then you were doing everything wrong.

We have 25 land hermit crabs per tank and everyone is fine, no aggressions no fighting and no deaths for 2 years.

Hermit crabs don't get along well together, regardless of whether they are land-dwelling or ocean-dwelling. You would be better off getting three separate tanks. They can be quite small, depending on the size of the crab. 10 gallons for a small crab would be plenty. Don't forget that they need extra shells as they grow.

I would say a 10 gallon tank is probably fine for 3 hermit crabs. Make sure there are several different places for them to hide and burrow though.
