If the female is underage, it's usually because they're trying to imitate adults. People tend to do things that adults do. If they notice that adult females put on make-up, that seems like the a adult thing to do as if it's some rite of passage.
It's the same with women wearing high heels. Young girls will wear high heels to imitate such women. It gets promoted even more with media and ads that show desirable women wearing make-up and pumps.
Make-up is also used as a concealer. It can hide a lot of the flaws that would normally be visible. People like symmetry and smooth skin free of blemishes or flaws is considered desirable.
I'm from Washington State and women tend to be natural beauties because of the outdoor activities where make-up is mprudent. When I moved down to Los Angeles, I noticed women tend to dress up more.
There's more of a competitive atmosphere when it comes to looks here in Los Angeles because everyone looks like a movie star. In a small rural town, people don't care as much. There'd be women that would go to the mall wearing sweats that are ratty or have holes in them and it's no big deal. In L.A., wearing sweats that are torn or dusty would be considered ghetto.
Also, don't forget the Psychological Aspect. We live in a Patriarchal or Male-Dominated Society where in courtship, the man is usually expected to approach the female. In order to entice men to approach females, it's necessary to be alluring and put on such make-up to encourage such conversation.
Amusingly enough, it sometimes backfires because physical beauty can attract men they don't want. While stalkers and obsessed males should be discouraged, I still say that if females are going to rub themselves in steak and enter a cage full of hungry lions, can they really complain if they get mauled.
It's like walking around flashing money on the street. You make yourself a target for getting mugged. Same with women that dress up all pretty and are extremely attractive and then they complain about how all these losers won't leave them alone.

Some girls feel that there are so many things wrong with their skin that they want to hind. While some feel that guys are only looking at them physically, so they want the look at has been put in everyones mind:big eyes, big lips, even skin color, dark, long eye lashes, rosy checks, ect. The natural look is desinagrating by the minute. Mostly because they don't see the natural beauty with in them selves.

Too much pressure on teenage girls and young women to strive to be just liek all the models in those glossy magazines you buy!!
Some try to make the most of themselves and makeup can enhance your best features and hide your worst when used correctly. Everyone wants to be the most beautiful and thats just the way it is. Insecurity will cause a girl to overload her face with the stuff for fear of people knowing what she really looks like.
It can make you feel better about your self, and the packaging is sometimes nicer than the makeup itself, i dont dip my face in it but i adore all the products on offer, its fun!!

I wear a bit of makeup when going out but only the bare essentials. I'm 45 but just do very light eyeshadow, a bit of mascara and foundation. Can't stand lipstick. When I'm out early doors, don't wear anything. I prefer the natural look.

im just saying .. some ppl wear make-up to cover up their blemishes .. not because they have low self-esteem or to look older, but just so that they could feel confident instead of having to worry about a giant pimple. only like 5 year olds wear make up to look older .. and usually ppl with low self esteem dont even bother to put on makeup because their too depressed all the time

It depend on the occassion. Those wearing make-ups even to the market place? They are either insecure, beauty conscious or lack of self confidence.

They probably think the more they shove on the more they might look like the models in magazines....AIRBRUSHING is a wonderful thing! I wear mascara, lip gloss and eyeliner, but I hate foundation costs too much to put on, even more so to scape it off!. Each to their own I suppose :)
