i am growing watermelon in my garden and i haven't ever done so before-i don't how to tell when they are ready, somebody said that they fall off the vine, but one of them sounds hollow and looks good but it hasn't yet is that true or not? Thanks

If the vine is shrivelled up, pick it!!

They'll generally get a little yellow patch on their bottoms, and the little curly tendril nearest their stem will start to dry up when the melon is ripe. If it's falling off the vine, it's overripe.
