Great question and I am so glad to see a young person like yourself asking it. A suit is not a bad idea, however I think a nice pair of slacks and a shirt you can tuck in will do just fine.

Managers look for clean cut, nice and friendly people who look and act like someone your grandmother would ask for help from in the middle of K-Mart. I am not trying to sterotype anyone when I say that typical grandmothers don't ask for help from someone when the look like a member of a street gang or the Hell's Angels biker club.

Some things that might be asked are: What are any of your past work experience (you could tell about yard work youv'e done, community serice work, church work or any previous jobs you have had). I would think of something specific and have that ready when asked for.

They might also ask about how you feel about working overtime, week-ends, or if a situation happened when you were about to get off from work and three people called in sick? How would you handle that? Would you be willing to work overtime if needed?

Also, how would you deal with another co-worker you saw stealing from the company? Or how would you handle another co-worker who was verbally abusive? Do you think a co-worker who takes drugs at home is ok?

#1. Stealing is a crime and you should report it to your supervisor immediately.
#2. Co-worker who is verbally abusive can be talked to one on one and if that don't work then you get your supervisor involved.
#3. Taking drugs at home is the co-workers own choice, however you don't know if they smoked pot 10 minutes before work or 10 hours so that person could cause a risk to you or someone in the store.

Don't chew gum during the interview. I always go to the bathroom prior to any meeting to check my face and make sure I don't have a booger hanging out or brocolli in my teeth. ALWAYS say yes sir and no sir or yes ma'am or no ma'am. Be polite and courteous and most of all relax. Take a deep breath before you go in and remember you only have one chance at a first impression. Good luck and I hope you get the job.

Just wear something casual but nice. You don't need a suit. Just wear jeans and a nice top. Just be confident and sure of yourself. Put off the vibe that you are really looking forward to be working for them. Be polite and social. Answer their questions with direct honest answers.

Goog Luck. Hope you get the job!

i had an interview at a place similar to that it was target. but any ways it was my first interview and i blew it. i was too childish with my answers. and i was un-still and very nervous. just be calm and chill. most of these kinda of stores look for leaders. they tend to ask alot about leadership in a situation. like "what would you do if you are in charge and your team is not following up with you?" personally i was never a leader so it was way rough on me.i never got the job either but that experience was good, now i got a job not working at a store or restaurant but in an office :-)

dress business casual. Button up shirt and jeans. they'll usually start off with how are you? from there they ask all kinds of stupid questions. just answer honestly. SMILE make sure you hold a professional appearance and attitude. they're looking for someone upbeat, and confident. ask questions, what are the shift hours? can you leave on your breaks? what can I bring to Kmart and what can Kmart do for me? 401-K plan? is there room for advancement? Never ask about pay! and be 5 minutes early. they are looking for punctuality. good luck with your interview.
