The best way to travel from mumbai to goa will be by train. This part of the Indian railway is named konkan railway and it is a mavel of Indian railway history. It was just opened a few years ago and it's an engineering marvel. The rail track goes thruogh the hills of western ghats. While travelling by train you will see hills on the left and the deep blue arabian sea on the right. It's a journey of a life time. It's really excellent.

Konkan railway /shatabdi express will take you to Goa.
But if you want to be in Panjim then take bus Paulo travels Aircon coach plus there are several well maintained luxury coaches. Off season rates are 350-600 Rs.
