I am concerned about my health. I would not consider myslf an alcoholic, but I ususally start drinking Wenesday, and stop on Sunday. Whenever I drink, I drink about 12-15 beers per night, within a 5-6 hour period. Sometimes, on Saturdays I will start drinking about noon, and stop at about midnight, drinking about 20 beers total for the day. I have built up a big tolerance, I only weigh 138 pounds. I never get hangovers either, no matter how much I drink. This has been going for about 2 years now. But, lately I have been getting cramps, it feels like my kidneys because it's coming from both sides of my stomach. Sometimes while at work my hands start tembling, not alot, but people notice. I used to drink alot of liqour, but I havent lately. When I did, I could easily finish a BIG bottle of Captain Morgan's spiced rum. Btw, I'm oly 20.

You ask "is this a bad thing?" I'll say YES it is.

Biologically it is possible for certain ppl to have a very high tolerance for alcohol. Also biologically, certain parts of the body will respond - they have no choice - and it sounds as if yours are responding! Shakes, tremors, whatever you want to call them are all indicators of withdrawal. Your body has adapted to the alcohol and wants it - kind of like smoking - you've addicted yourself. Sorry, kidd-o!

While you might think AA will cause you to feel helpless and hopeless, they also provide a good base of knowledge and support. At your age - and who hasn't mentioned that to you before?? - you are still developing in a physiological/biological sense. Your tolerance level will only increase with time. Your internal, and specific, body parts may not be able to handle that for very long. Time will catch you!

My question is; where do all the calories go when you're drinking!??!

Yeah Id say youre an alcoholic. Sorry dude. You should quit drinking. At least cut back A LOT. You should be able to drink a six pack and be drunk. Youre not even legally allowed to drink yet! Many people your age drink and/or drug to excess, and most (up to 80% according to Harvard studies) quit or learn to moderate on their own. It's called "maturing out".

I would NOT suggest AA. They convince people that they're all alcoholics that MUST go to meetings for the rest of their lives and instill things like powerlessness, diseases, fear and teach how hard it is to quit, things that can be very counter-productive. Through AA I found a ton of excuses that kept me drinking for years.

If you feel you need outside support, try SOS or SMART, they're available online and may have face-to-face meetings in your area. Or try reading the book or the website Rational Recovery.

Realizing that you may have a problem is biggest step.

You should be concerned about your health! Your kidneys shouldn't be hurting on both sides of your stomach unless you're having kidney stones and they're passing through the tubes on the way to your bladder. In that case you need to see the Dr. for ex-rays in case 1 or more are too large and can't pass on through on their on.
Stop drinking and/or get help!

Hi Ken,
The first part of fixing yourself is admitting that you have a problem... then ask yourself why you drink like this... is it the people that you are hanging out with?, get new friends... is it because the beer tastes so delicious?... quit lying to yourself, no beer is that delicious. Is it the "buzz factor" ? go do exercises to get your buzz.
Whatever you do, do it quickly. No good can come of all that beer. Good Luck....

Killing me softly, would your liver say.

You're called a seasonal drinker but it is problem 'cause it's a lot of beer you drink per night.

Your way is straight into alcoholism. Try to stop I assume you can't ... Try to reduce the amount of bottles per night.

Be careful, you're young, your liver it is young too. Give your liver time to recover. Try to pause some time.
