As the name says, emergency contraception is to be used for emergencies only [as in the case of a condom that breaks, or a sexual assault]. These pills are very high in their hormonal content; so high that it forces your ovaries to stop their normal function in order to prevent the release of an already mature ovum, and it also changes the chemical composition of the endometrial wall [the lining of your uterus], so a fertilized ovum cannot implant itself in there. It upsets the normal, balanced release of your feminine hormones, the consequences of which you're already experiencing. If you are sexually active [even if you have intercourse only once in a while], you should use another contraceptive method, such as regular birth control pills, the Depo-Provera shot, an IUD [intrauterine device]; or, at least, make sure that your partner wears a condom.

Frequent use of ECPs may cause periods to become irregular and unpredictable.
