The odd skipped periods are normal, however you may want to consider taking some evening primrose oil to try to help any possible hormonal imbalances causing the problem – EPO being the most easy to get a hold of given most supermarkets and pharmacies stock it, it will also help deal with PMT.
You can induce your periods, generally speaking it is best to let your body get on with what it is doing and deal with whatever is delaying your periods, however if it is causing you distress and menstrual problems your probably best bringing your period on yourself. It is perfectly safe to do as long as you have at least two weeks worth of uterus lining build-up, which you of course will have by now.
Generally most people swear by sex to induce menstruation, for obvious reasons it is the most fun either by yourself or with a partner, it's not the strongest method however if nothing else it will help you de-stress. The hormones released during orgasm are similar to those released during your period to cause uterus contractions to push out the uterus lining, the relaxation as well as the increased blood-flow will also help and semen is also known to soften the cervix so making it easier for menstruation to occur.
Vitamin C is quite often used, this starves the uterus of progesterone which helps break down the uterus walls, take large doses but of course not so much as to cause problems – in other words a few tablets a day or the equivalent, not chugging the whole bottle of vitamin C tablets. The purer the better as often ingredients are added to prevent this effect occurring – vitamin C is used to aid in inducing miscarriage/home abortions for this reason, so companies add things to prevent this from happening accidentally. Taking with a lot of water will also help to ease off some of the grumpiness as well.
The absolute best method is to use parsley; this is commonly used and has been for a very long time because parsley is considered to be the best of the mild emmenagogue, which relaxes the cervix so allowing the release of menstrual material. Fresh parsley can be inserted into the vagina and changed every few hours, but most people prefer to drink it in the form of tea lightly sweetened with some honey. Fresh herbs are always best, but tea bags can be used if it is more convenient for you. The water should be allowed to boil but then brought down to a simmer so not to loose the potency, allow a hand full of fresh chopped parsley to steep for approximately half an hour, strain and it is ready to drink. Tea should be drunk four times a day, and will usually induce a period quite fast.
Pennyroyal is another well-known herb for inducing menstruation, this is an abortifacient, which means that it causes the muscles of the uterus to contract, so perhaps not advisable if you suffer from bad period pains. Steeping them in hot water for quarter of an hour and drinking four times a day should induce menstruation – be careful, pennyroyal has a bad reputation because used in the wrong way it can be dangerous, ask for advice within a health shop if you are considering using this method.
Dong quai is used in a similar way to parsley to relax and soften the cervix in preparation for expelling menstrual material, like with parsley it should not be boiled as this makes the herb loose the volatile oils which are necessary for the herb to do its job. The dried, chopped root of the Dong quai is put into a pan of water to simmer for quarter of an hour and drank every three to four hours – it should be noted that you have to use dried root as fresh can contain toxins that can harm the body, these toxins are eliminated through drying of the root. Dong quai should be avoided if you suffer from cancer or heart problems, also don’t use aspirin while taking this herb as dong quai can increase bleeding and aspirin is a blood thinner, attention should also be taken to the amount in which you bleed after using this herb to induce menstruation because bleeding may increase significantly.
Other herbs that can be used are mugwort, black cohosh and Rue, these and other herbs are used in a similar way to the herbs listen above, however each can carry different side effects so further research should be done if you are considering using these rather than the herbs listed above.
The above herbal methods are natural and so a lot better for health than chemical cocktails often found in prescribed drugs for this purpose, however just because they are natural does not mean that they are safe, as a general rule unless you have studied these methods in more depth I would only recommend using these herbs for up to three days in order to insure no damage is done. This is not to say that these herbs are dangerous, simply care should be taken to care for your health.
You can get pills from your doctor if above methods do not work for you, there are many pills that can be given to you by your doctor to bring about menstruation; Provera is one type of medication prescribed, this works by firstly giving your body progesterone to build up the uterus lining, and then when you stop taking the pill the drop will bring on menstruation, these can however mess your menstrual cycle up further.

I missed my period for FOUR MONTHS one time. ( I was 16yrs!)
I'm normally pretty regular & found out it was stress. If you don't stop stressing you will be very miserable later in life. Ulsers are not cool! You have to sit up everynight when you sleep & being constanly nausious suck too. So figure out why your stresses & for the sake of your body & family & children & eliminate the cause. I'm sure what ever it is isn't worth a life time of misery. You really do deserve better then that. Go to globalrevival.com & buy some books. You can view cool stuff on there as well. Log on Sunday Mornings for live meeting. Dr. Christian Harfouch is my favorite. His Wife Robin is my 2nd favorite. Please try it. You don't want to end up with a nervouse breakdown @ 23 years old like me. I tried 6 different typs of andi-depressants & they only work for 2 weeks & on to something else. I decided I had enough anxiety & panic attacks & I was willing to try Christianity.
It actually worked! It was somothing I thought I would never do!
Give it a shot. It's worth it! God Bless! P.S. Ask you OBGYN try to find a female. They may suggest "the pill" to start you back on track. Hope this helps

first of all try and stop stressing, easier said than done i know, but the more you worry the longer you'll have to wait! as for the pmt well I'm afraid that wont shift until your period gets here and believe me i know how it feels I'm currently only having 1 period every 2nd month but starting with pmt before my period would be due the first month. it's a real *****, if you're concerned that something could be really wrong or are getting any pain or unusual discharge or spotting then see your GP. hope this helps. ;o)

I, too , have not had my period for a while. I have missed 4 periods already!!!
I read somewhere that the cause may be of a few things. It can be stress, symptoms of a thyroid problem, etc. It can affect your hypothalamus as well.
I am scared but this has happened to me once before.
I hear that birth control pills will help. They worked for me the first time. Try it. YOu can purchase it through planned parenthood or someplace like it if you don't have a doctor.

Go to the doctor.
Seriously....I cannot believe the amount of people here who have obviously something not right and have not yet gone to the doctor.
Go to the doctor.
There are many many reasons you might not have had a period in that time..some of them not so serious, some life-threatening.
Go to the doctor, for flip's sake.
Go to the doctor.

Book a holiday in the sun, you will soon get a period then. It will arrive the day of your flight and last the whole week of your holiday.
The more you stress over it the longer they will take. Relax.
