I am interested in becoming a rural carrier associate for the postal service---I currenty work for FedEx Express and am interested in making a career change---is rural carrier associate a good way to get in the door of the post office or is it a miserable grunt job with low pay and no hope?

Being an RCA is one of the toughest jobs in the USPS. RCA's aren't guaranteed hours because its more of a fill in job until a regular route becomes available. Rural carriers also have to provide their own vehicles and provide many of the services that a window clerk would. I would suggest trying to take the City Carrier test because right off the bat you get benefits and some guaranteed hours.
