I think that in terms of being loved by fans Dale Jr. is already there. He is easily the most popular driver, he's not everybody's favorite, but everyone likes him at least a little bit. I was listening to the radio during the race at the Brickyard last week, and even on my crappy am-radio walk man I could hear the fans over the engines when Dale took the lead.
In terms of winning as many races and points championships, that's a tall order, and I honestly don't think he'll do it. NASCAR's 43 car field has a lot more good cars in it than it used to, so I don't think Dale Jr. will get as many chances to have a dominant car the way Sr. did.
I was a fan of Sr.'s but didn't automatically attach my loyalty to Jr. after Sr. died. There was something once in a lifetime about Sr. The way he was tough as nails and then could turn around and be tenderhearted. It's not something I see many people do with a lot of class. I'm a Tony Stewart fan because "Smoke" has the same sort of fire and Ice Streak that Sr. had, and he has two championships.
Sr. was the best of the last generation, and in some ways the best in this generation too. Jr. might have equal charm and driving skill, but he lacks what the French call a certain "I don't know what.
Sr.'s set the bar too high for Jr. to ever be the first Dale Earnhardt that comes to mind when someone says "Dale Earnhardt."

Let me say first that I am a big Jr fan,he is second only to Tony Stewart.I personally don't think he will be a legend like Dale Sr,don't get me wrong I believe he will win many more races and maybe even a title or two.But the old man was something special, and arguably the best driver to ever play the game.So although I think Dale Jr will be success full I don't think he will equal or surpass The Intimidator.

Cup racing is very different now than when Dale Sr started driving. The competition is sooo close nowadays. Dale Jr is not his dad. It is entirely possible he might never win a championship. I think he likes to party and drink way too much to be legendary on the track. He has enough trouble just trying to win at least one race a year. He's still got a long way to go before he reaches championship status, never mind be a legend.

Jr. doesn't drive in the same manner as Sr. did (odds are he won't change, because a lot of his fans like the fact that he drives in a nice fair manner) so it's really hard to compare the two even if Jr. did start winning a lot of races! At this point and how Jr. is racing I'd have to say he will never come close, but that all could change, he is improving every year!

I think that he probably won't be as good as his dad, but he will be a legend in his own right. What people have to stop doing is comparing him to his dad all of the time. Junior's driving style is completely different than what his dad's was. Junior can be aggressive, but he's not as aggressive as his dad was. The guy is a good driver, I think that DEI may be holding Junior back a little. The team's performance has been off lately. Also, Junior has 17 wins, not 14. Jbmorr03, maybe you should have your facts straight before you give an answer.

I am a huge Dale Jr fan, but I don't think he'll ever be like his dad, No one will. I think he's capable of winning championships and alot more races in his career, He just needs a bit of team work. I think he's doing his part, Just needs to have a chat with his team.

I think Dale Jr. and Tony Stewart will eventually both quit and become owners.
I also think DEEP in Jr.'s heart he holds back just a little bit from pushing it to the limit like his dad did.
I wish Kerry Earnhardt would've got a little more backing with his team, he looks so much like his dad it is freaky!

ok, right here is my opinion on Dale Jr. all of us comprehend why Dale Jr is the main generally happening driving force in NASCAR. to declare he sucks, i think of, could be unfair. Dale Jr has 18 wins in his profession stunning now. it extremely is as many as Matt Kenseth and greater suitable than Kevin Harvick, who've been in sprint Cup in basic terms as long as Dale Jr has. Harvick has long gone longer and not applying a win than Dale Jr yet human beings are not continually announcing Harvick sucks. Jeff Gordon hasn't won because 2007 yet all of us comprehend he would not suck. each and every physique looks to have such intense expectancies for Dale Jr because of the fact of who his father substitute into that they think of he could have something like 2 championships, 40 wins, and be very helpful in NASCAR by applying now and because he would not which skill he sucks. human beings don't comprehend how annoying it extremely is to win races. while in comparison with Jimmie Johnson, Dale Jr sucks. while in comparison with maximum different drivers, he has had a brilliant profession. i'm no longer extremely a Dale Jr fan the two, I in basic terms become tired of what human beings say approximately him.

Did any of the Petty boys follow in Richards footsteps, no its hard to surpass your old man when he is a legend. Jr should concentrate on getting DEI on track, and winning races.

He will be in time as long as people stop comparing him to his dad and realize that he is AWESOME in his own right. I think that he is already a legend. He has a great personality and he is very good looking! He is already a legend. Even if he stopped racing tomorrow people would always remember him. My husbands book shelf proves that over $1000 in Jr....stuff.
