I often read about all of the people who starve to death, die of AIDS and other epidemics, car accidents, and then one has to consider those who die naturally of old age or such. I know they get buried, but why aren't the living being shoved into a small burial plot-free corner of the world yet?

Well, the ashes still take up space, and not everyone gets cremated.

Maybe we are running out of space?

Well, for one, there's the fact that bodies break down- the land can be reused.

Also, cremation speeds up the breaking down process, and takes up virtually no room. Also consider that in some countries, the custom is to use a body of water for burial.

But, you didn't really want an answer anyway- you just wanted to make a point.

Well, they're buried underground, so there is a vast community of dead people walking around below the surface. Here aboveground, we don't have to face the dead since we're six feet above them. How do you know you're not living above buried people? Have you dug into your yard to check for bodies?

Maybe mole people eat all the dead bodies underground. Plus, some people get thrown into rivers, or chopped up in wood chippers like in Fargo, or eaten by pythons--not everybody gets buried. There are lots of ways to hide the bodies...

because dead people dont take up as much space as living people! do you have any idea how many people you can cram into a cemetery?? whenever i go visit my grandpa's grave they are so close together you have to walk on them to get to the one youre going to. walking on graves creeps me out. i think the dead people are going to put a curse on me for disturbing their sleep.
