I had a one-time experience with a bikini when I was about 12. When I was at a friend's pool, it started to come off when I dove off from the diving board. I never wear bikinis again. I'm thinking of doing a tankini, that'll fit me and cover my scar on my waist and my shoulder and parts of my back. Have you had any experiences with a tankini? Would you recommend it?

The tankini solves the problem with the top coming undone or out of place, but it doesn't do anything about the bottom! (and, it's the bottom that usually acts up on my bikini when I am swimming more actively, diving, or playing in the ocean.)

Why don't you have both - a tankini and a one-piece? That way, if you know you are going to be playing around in the water, you can wear the one piece. If you are just going to be hanging out by the pool or on the beach you can wear the tankini. jcrew.com has some cute styles of both, and they are on sale right now!

I understand why you would choose not to wear bikinis. When I was 14 I went on a family holiday to the coast. My brother went to the beach one day while Mum & Dad went elsewhere. I lost my bikini top in the surf, and my brother and I searched for ages but never found it. Neither of us had a shirt so I spent the whole day topless.
I went the other way to you and just stopped wearing bikini tops. I swim topless whenever I can.
But for you, where I assume you don't want to swim topless, I would recommend trying a bikini again. They are the best for getting a tan. Just choose one which is more like a bra than one with strings. Its less likely to come off. If not, go the tankini. Much easier than a one piece if you need to go to the toilet, as someone else said, and you can roll up the top to tan your tummy if you want.

I love tankini's because they have as much coverage as a one piece and

(1) When you lay down in the sun you can lift up the top & roll down the bottom a little bit to tan your tummy so you're not white in the middle.

When your stomach is tan, you look thinner. I'm not thin enough for a 2 piece, therefore I love tankini's.

(2) It is much easier to go the bathroom than a one piece since you need only to take bottoms off to do number 1 & number 2

Tankinis are good for covering up scars and if you have a little tummy. The disadvantage is that they fall down alot and have to be adjusted. Bikinis are okay but I had a similar experience with the top. Another alternative is a one piece. Go to seventeen.com and see if they can recommend a good bathing suit.

i prefer tankinis , as they are more modest, but if you want a good tan use a halter bikini
