when countries like Palenstine used a democratic election and voted in Hamas then we denounced them. We didn't like the outcome of that election so we don't recognize it as a democracy?

How do we get away with this hypocrisy?

Doesn't this make it clear that spreading democracy is an excuse for war-mongering?

Democracy only works when the person you want to win wins. When a terrorist group like Hamas gets elected or Adolf Hitler it is a bad thing. Americans seem to believe democracy is what is best for the world when in reality it is just the best thing for America, Canada and others. For Middle Eastern countries they seem to need a dictator to get by.

In 1900 there were only a handful of democracies and today there are way more than a hundred, In 75 years 90% of the world will be democracies, even the Chinese. Communism and dictatorships don't work.

We can't spread it because we're not a democracy. Democracies are ruled by the people essentially. If we ruled this country, there wouldn't be troops dying over in the middle east right now. We're more of a hypocracy then anything. Capitalism, gotta love it...

Democracy all too frequently ability corrupt dictatorship elected with the aid of fools on the behest of multimillionaires' media. it is ceratinly the case in Britain. we would want to continually spread democracy in Britain and the U. S. with the aid of ultimate down Newscorp's diseased organs - and propaganda rags jointly with the London evening uncomplicated - to provide human beings a touch extra area to imagine about what's happening.

First, it is not the legitimacy of the Palestinian election that the U.S. government contests, but rather the legitimacy of Hamas as a political entity. Hamas has, as one of its stated purposes, the violent erradication of one of our closest allies. Just as we refused to recognize the IRA until they renounced the violent expulsion of the English authority in Ireland, our stance toward Hamas and Hezbollah is consistent.

Further, our refusal to negotiate directly with organizations like Hamas or governments like North Korea is often seen as a sign of American arrogance and stubborness. In reality, our willingness to hold to this unpopular position serves to protect, rather than erode, global stability by keeping radical elements on the fringe. If Europe had isolated Hitler instead of appeasing him, how many innocent lives might have been saved?

There are certainly hypocracies in U.S. policies, but there are also elements in this world (and in this country) who would like a return to the Dark Ages. Given the choice, I choose progress.

I don't know. I wish we would stop that. Why should we push our form of life on others. I personally like our democracy, but other cultures don't fit well, and why should we force it.

We, America, needs to stay out of some things. The war on Terror is good, war on Iraq is bad. They are not the same. I think you are correct, but further it is about OIL. We need to get off that drug.

I love democracy, I think that most of our problems in our own government would be solved by setting term limits for all are congressmen. That way the typical man would be represented, not just the elite people.

I hardly call it hypocrisy. When the Palestinians voted in Hamas, we knew they were terrorist, but gave them the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps, we thought that now that they are in charge they will give up their terrorist ways and focus on doing right by the Palestinians. Well ......that didn't happen, they are still terrorist and we don't negotiate or have diplomatic relationships with terrorist.
Don't blame my country, blame the terrorist.
