I've been shaving with a cut throat razor for some time. I need to know the best way to sharpen and hone it. I have all the gear, strop, paste etc. Surely someone can tell me what equipment I need and how and when to do it? Any information is appreciated.

leather and sandalwood oil

nail a leather belt (preferably between 2cm's / 5cm'swide) to a bench edge back side up (swede side not shiny leather side) buckle end in your hand. thinly cover the surface of the belt with sandalwood oil, then pull it taught and draw the blade along the belt heel first applying moderate pressure. When you get to the end, turn the blade over and draw the balde back... repeat. The more you use your leather strop, the better it gets.

(I occasionally put chrome cleaner on mine too).

On television I see them sharpening it by swiping it across the leather strap.
