Distribute the minus sign on the second term (you can just drop the minus sign on the first term):

3a+2b-c - 5a + 3c

Now add like terms (those with the same variable)

-2a + 2b + 2c

And that's all you can do unless you are given specific values for a, b, and c.

First you get rid of the parenthesis and combine like terms. So your equation will look like 3a+2b-c -5a+3c. Notice that the negative of a minus gives you a positive. That is why it is +3c as opposed to -3c.

Group like terms:

3a-5a+2b-c+3c=-2a+2b+2c=2(-a+b+c)

Well, you can't solve it since you didn't list what either is equal to, or if they are equal to each other.

You can, however, simplify it.
(3a+2b-c)-(5a-3c) = 3a+2b-c- 5a + 3c = (3-5)a + 2b + (-1+3)c = -2a + 2b -2c = -2(a+b-c).

But they're right above, you will only learn if you do your own homework.

(3a+2b-c)-(5a-3c)
=3a+2b-c-5a+3c Distribution
=-2a+2b+2c Arithmetic
=2(-a+b+c) Opposite of Distribution(I forget what that's called)

(3a + 2b - c) - (5a - 3c)

3a + 2b - c -5a + 3c

clearing parenthesis. When clearing a minus ( - ) sign precedes a parenthesis, the signs inside the parentesis change.

3a - 5a) + 2b (-c + 3c)

colledting like terms

-2a + 2b + 2c

2(-a + b + c)

Extracting the common factor 2

the answer is 2(-a + b + c)

Your not solving it. You are SIMPLIFYING IT.

(3a+2b-c)-(5a-3c)
= 3a+2b-c-5a+3c (minus a minus)
= (3a-5a)+2b+(-c+3c) (collect the like terms)
= -2a+2b+2c
= 2(-a+b+c)

(3a+2b-c) - (5a-3c)
leave (3a+3b-c) and distribute the negative sign to (5a-3c)
so it will be -5a+3c..it's a law of changing the sign..
then change it to addition...
s0 it will be...
3a+2b-c + -5a+0b+3c
so it is equals to..
-2a+2b+2c...
just ask your teacher if this is wrong but i know this is right!
