I'm having trouble pushing down the fuel pump so I can lock it down with the lock ring. I tried rotating the pump a little but is there something in the tank that is preventing the pump to seat properly?

Yes it is spring loaded and will only fit a certain way. I don't have the installation tool so I'm using a screwdriver and hammer to rotate the ring. I get so close then the ring spins backwards and the fuel pump pops up. I am filing the slots on the ring where the tabs on the tank fit into to help with the clearance of the ring. PAIN IN THE BUTT!!!!!

the fuel pump body is spring loaded i believe they make a tool for this but i never had to use one,its a pain but you can push the pump down and get the ring to lock, make sure the plastic body on the fuel pump assembly is moving freely and line up tabs on pump with tabs on tank.

ck to see if it is the same height of old unit. It should not be a problem getting it to go flush with tank .i have changed so many newer modes that its hard to remember if this 99 year model is aspring loaded module.there is a extended metal tab that you have to line up also l
