Like the above people pointed out, Internet Explorer is a browser.
Yahoo isn't just a search engine! It's a company, that happens to own a search engine but a lot of other online companies including for example this one we're using right now.
My Yahoo is your own personalised little corner of the Internet, used to digest the things you want to read from around the web.
So yeah, they're completely and utterly different!

"internet explorer" is a web browser
"yahoo" is a search engine and search index
"my yahoo" is your own personalized/customizable yahoo homepage with your yahoo resources at your fingertips. i.e. mail box, news, stocks, sports...

One is a web browser on your computer, one is a search engine stored on a remote computer, and one is a collection of preferences. They're not remotely similar.
