My house is 10 years old and I think it'll help my electric bills, especially since one of the attic access areas has no insulation. I got an estimate of $450. My house is 2100 sq ft and two story.

These prices are per Means residential cost estimating book.
5" thick insulation should roughly cost $0.46 per square foot
6" should be $0.56 per square foot
9" should be $0.77 per square foot
12" should be $1.12 per ssquare foot.

Square foot is based on the length x width or the attic space. Or the total square foot of one floor under your roof. The R-value and type of insulation will determine the depth of the insulation.

Your area may vary and you should have at least 20" of available insulation to reach an R-value of 30.

wouldn't that depend on the cubic footage of the area you want covered in insulation (not the square footage of floor space in the house)?
