The Palmer House is a very nice place. I've stayed there and enjoyed my time there.

You need to venture out a bit when you are not in the hotel itself.

There's lots of history associated with that hotel. It is older and with that comes several things that you should just expect -- smaller rooms, older facilities, creaking floors, the older part of downtown Chicago -- around the old jewelry district.

The lobby and restaurant is very beautiful and well appointed -- with lots of dark wood. It is very classy. It is older, so just expect that.

You are just a couple of blocks from Michigan Avenue -- near the new Millinuem Park. You have to check that out.

The Chicago Art Museum is right there too. You are a very short cab ride from the Field's Museum, Shedd Acquarium, Adler Planetarium and that whole complex.

You are several miles from Oak Street Beach, so that's a short cab ride ($7) one way. You will like OSB. The same for Navy Pier (although I am not as big a fan of Navy Pier.

You should do the Chicago River tour, that is outdoors and goes down the Chicago River between huge skyscrapers and learn the archetectural history behind all those beautiflu buildings. That is very cool and inexpensive.

No outdoor pool.

I have never stayed there but I have been in it a few times, there is a beach about 2-3 miles away and I am sure there is a pool in it. From what I have seen it is a very nice hotel and I think you couldn't be staying at a much better one unless you spend a billion dollars a night.

Oak Street Beach just a short jaunt from the loop.

Millenium Park and the "Bean" acouple of blocks from the Hotel.

Get on double decker bus tour of the city--plenty of sun and fun on the top level of the bus.

Take a river cruise--learn about chicago architecture--pick-up boats by the Wrigley Building.
