The Red Sox are better than the Yankees because there are no New York Yankees, only the New York Steinbrenners. Seriously, I do think the Red Sox are the better team precisely because they are a team, and they have the talent, too. While the Steinbrenners have a great deal of talent, the players do not work together that well, and they did have some injury problems. I cannot agree with those who say the Steinbrenners "suck." That they do not, even if they have not fared well in the postseason lately. They are almost always dangerous.
I think the Red Sox will come out of their current slump and leave the Steinbrenners in the dust battling the White Sox and Twins for the wild card. I don't see the Steinbrenners in the playoffs this year, but if they do take the wild card they will be eaten alive by the Tigers.
Two earlier comments disgusted me. rebel_yell09, get a life. Baseball is for everybody. And dodger_blue27, you just reinforced my lifelong hatred of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Gay-bashing insults do you no credit, sirrah. (I happen to be straight.)

Historically and statistically the Yankees are better than the Red Sox. But when the Red Sox won, to quote Bill Simmons, they made the Yankees' celebrations look like a day of standing in line in the DMV. Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for the house to win in blackjack. The Yankees buy talent, have no farm system to speak of, are a group of 35+ past-their-prime stars and have over 100 million dollars in salary locked up through 2008. Oh, and they perennially lose money on every season just so they can stick it to a team they insist on not being that worried about.
So sure, the Yankees have more rings. But I'm still enjoying the 2004 season. My guess is you can't say the same about 2000.

The Red Sox are not better than the Yankees, However, that being said. When was the last time the Yankees on the world series. It seems to me that they haven't won since the payroll hit $200 million+. It just goes to show you money can't buy you happiness or a world series.

The Red Sox have won more world series than the Yankees in the past like ten years the Yankees are on a slide downwards and aren't going to get better for a while the Yankees are getting older and the Red Sox lineup still has a few more solid years in them 4-3 greatest comeback in sports history remeber the ALCS...ALCS...ALCS.... But you can say what you want.

im with you man. the sox have two good pitchers, shilling and beckett, while the yankees have 4, wang mussina lidle and johnson. the sox have 2 great hitters, ortiz and manny, and the yankees have damon jeter rodriguez abreu cano and giambi. mariano rivera is the best closer of all time. jonathan papelbon is NOT. end of story!

to be honest i mean to be honest im more of a basketball fan but i live in boston and i kinda dont care who wins....so good luck to yankees and red sox...i just like my celts. Its not like i am a 40 yr old guy who watches every baseball game drinking beer with his friends i barely watch baseball lol im only 14. good luck too you.But you gotta love big papi oooh i love that guy.
