I have tried various spellings (not knowing whether you would pronounce it 'cho-thee-to' or 'cho-kee-to') but to no avail. I tried 'chocito' and 'choquito' and found nothing whatsoever, which is odd. When you cut them open, what are they like inside? Are they like a cucumber or a gourd or a melon? Is the skin smooth or rough or hairy?

I wonder if she meant chayote? It is a green, oval shaped vegetable much used in Mexican cooking. Mostly in a type of shrimp stew with carrots, shrimp and cilantro, very tasty, but don't eat or handle the skin of the vegetable it can cause a rash in some people. I don't know if that is what they are though so I would be careful with them.

DId she mean, "chicharos"??....if so those are peas so you have nothing to worry about!
But not "chicito"......so I would ask!!!
