Have you ever given money or an item you had or made to a charity or a needy person? What did you give, and to what charity? Is this something you do as a regular practice or did you just feel like you should at the time you did it? Was there a particular reason for giving or for the particular item or amount you gave?

When my mother passed away several years ago, we donated the money given by friends to a local shelter that helps people dealing the alcoholism and homelessness. Her dad was an alcoholic, and she suffered a lot as a child. We knew it was something she would've wanted us to do.

I donated clothes to the Salvation Army this afternoon. Whenever I clean out my closet, I always give the clothes to the Salvation Army or a similar organization--sometimes local organizations.

The clothes are clean and still wearable, I just either don't wear them anymore or have gained/lost enough weight that they don't fit me anymore.

I know there are people in need all around, especially this time of year with school starting back. Some of the clothes aren't in season yet, but they will be eventually. I feel good knowing that I'm doing what I can on a college student's budget to help people in need.

I give to my church and help support missions. Sometimes we give money to people on the side of the road. My church took in 800 people from Hurricane Katrina. I live near Baton, Rouge which is about 45 minutes from New Orleans, so we got hit with the Hurricane also, just not as bad. We gave some money and blankets and clothes. I wish I could give more of my time and money, but I have 4 children and it makes it difficult ,but the best thing that we can give is our love.

yes, gave old clothes, my son's old stuffed animals and items to people who are less fortunate that my birth father preaches to in the projects. I do it on a regular basis everytime I do some good cleaning. No reason besides the things could make someone smile (especially kids) and keep someone warm...save kids a time of getting made fun of at school...you know what I mean :)

i've given clothes and money.
i gave bags full of clothes to the goodwill...i don't think that's a charity though.
and around the city i give a dollar or 2, to people i see on the streets holding up signs. but i hate to think that they'll use it for other things other that food.
in Mexico, everyday i see young kids on the streets, their clothes torn up, and their dirty little faces, they're really poor, i feel REALLY bad for them...so i give them some money.
i like it when the little kids are sitting on the sidewalks and playing a little guitar for money...yet their extremely homeless.
i hope the money i give them, will help them out to buy some food.

There have been a few times when I have helped others. I have given food , clothes, money. paid somebody 's electric bill for them, paid a phone bill for somebody, helped my sister buy my mother a car, I bought a lawnmower last year that is now a community lawnmower. It's always good to help people, you never know, you might be in a position someday where you need help and God will send it to you. Everytime I helped someone It always made me feel good to share Gods Love with others.

One of the neatest experiences I had was while pumping gas. I was brand new in town, had just taken a management position at a local restaurant. I college age kid comes up to me and says he "over pumped", and doesn't have enough to cover the bill. I gave him all I had in my wallet, five or six bucks, but enough for him to cover his costs.
He thanked me and that was that, until later that week I see him in the restaurant. We both recognized each other, and he comes over and tells me again how grateful he was to me. How I bailed him out of a bind, etc.
Turns out he worked there, and he told everyone about the "new manager with a heart of gold". Not that it's necessarily true, but it helped build my reputation in a brand new store.
You never know where a good deed will turn you.

Whenever I go to Mexico, I bring a bung of quarters to give to the kids on the street when they beg. I don't give bills because they fight over them and rip them. I'll give a couple dollars in quarters and the kids seem so happy (wish I could do more!). I also brought all of my old stuffed animals to Mexico and gave the ones in good condition out. I wish I was rich and could always do things like that!

I give stuff through freecycle to people who need stuff I have and don't need. I have given a printer to a single mother, a car stereo to a guy who had his ripped off, a bike rack to a single mother of three so she could take thier bikes with them camping and a couple of other things. It seems to be a good way to keep stuff out of the land fill and into the hands of someone who will use it.

Sure. I've donated items to the Salvation Army and to Goodwill, given money to both of those organizations, and I was team captain once with my employer to do fundraising for the March of Dimes.
