One day I was late for a meeting... I knew I'd be later still when I heard the rail crossing signal as I came down the hill...
But as the train rumbled slowly past, I had the chance to see up close the amazing work on the boxcars. I realized this "art" had come from places far away and had traveled great distances for me to view it... I was enthralled, and thankful for the peaceful few minutes of reflection it had given me.
I wish there was a way to contain this primitive and passionate form of expression in a non-harmful form.
Did you know - centuries-old graffiti was found on the walls in the Roman Coliseum - the first recorded palindrome, "Roma - Amor" (Rome - Love). Cool, huh?

Yes there is graffiti near my house but it is not very nice but very sad.On several walls it is written that a person is a bully. The word bully is written in large letters, small letters and a person is named as being the bully.Whoever has written this obviously feels that this is a way of exposing his or her tormentor.I would'nt be exaggerating if I said that the word bully is written more than 40 times.I have seen the council men out cleaning the walls which can be very costly and I heard through the grapevine that the person responsible has been caught and may now face a court case for damaging public property.I just hope that the bully is reprimanded for causing another person to go to such extremes.

I consider it as a freedom of expression, what's the difference from graffiti and 50ft long and 20 ft high billboards forcing advertising down our throats.
It's a shame, because the talented few get put into the same category as kids who think tagging is cool, and vandalise everything in site.
As long as it's not done on private property i.e. somebodys house, business etc. and there is some artistic merit in the work, then why not have our streets a bit brighter - free art for all!

There is lots of graffiti near where I live but mostly it's just the "artist"'s signature. However I think that in Amsterdam there are some true art works from graffiti, instead of the mess you usually see.

i see graffiti all over the place here. some of it is just boring tags on the slide at the school playground and my junior high, like a squiggle thats supposed to be a name, but there is a mural about diversity on the east end and another one in the heights remembering this guy who was killed a while ago.
obviously, the boring tags, from people who just want to take up space, dont mean much to me.

Yep. Graffiti is everywhere around here.
Some of it I like, it's artsy, it's decorative and it had a lot of planning and effort put into it. I give extra points for graffiti in hard to reach places like on overpasses.

Colourful, artistic graffitti looks great and really brightens the place up. Badly drawn/painted graffitti looks terrible and does the opposite. There's Banksy and his contemporaries, they've done some excellent work in the areas I live and work in, and I salute them!

no proper graffiti just people spraying tags, i don't mind properly done graffiti it can look great, but the tag stuff is just done by waste of space people and it cheapens the whole look of the area

Some of it would be nice if it were not desecrating buildings - maybe as a competition on boards or something.
