Depending on the job - from secret clearance checks to minor credit checks. An applicant for a driver job will have his/hers driver license checked and police record among other things. Teachers, volunteers at schools, etc. require extensive background checks to see if they have any felony convictions although they may have a poor credit record. Some organizations may correlate a bad credit record with a potentially dishonest employee. The private information about each of us is there, more than we are aware of, and when we consent to somenone reviewing that info, we may be up for a surprise.

Background check may include criminal and employment history. I don't understand why an employer would need to know your credit history, as your job does not involve your personal finances.

I had that done and as far as I could tell it was to check on a criminal history, how responsible I am by looking at my credit, and contacting family members, ex's, past employers to see what they say about you, what kind of character you have and what kind of person you are.

each and each employer has differing standards it extremely is used to make hiring judgements. A credit examine can demonstrate a potential subject worker if there distinctive scientific charges on the credit checklist, or the guy seems to be drowning in revolving charge account debt, or there have been subject concerns financial employer enjoying cards. many times, a sparkling credit checklist is a reliable pointer in direction of an "subject-unfastened" prospect without unusual financial subject concerns.

They are just making sure there will be no surprises about you which may create a problem for them down the line (i.e you tend to skip out on debts (unreliable, not trustworthy), didn't tell them you were in jail, etc.). They can also usually verify things like past employment, though not in very great detail.

your work history, for any crimes, for your residential status what places you used to live ,plus input from friends esp if it's a govt sensitive related job, your general background. if it's for a credit card co employer, they'll do a credit check or if you apply for a loan. but normally no credit checks; mostly police reports if any.

They don't check for credit, because you'll never be in a position to give THEM money.
They will check for a criminal record, past employers, stuff like that.

Definately criminal at least. That's why they always ask you if you've ever been convicted of a felony on applications. I'm not too sure they care about your credit, not many of us could get a job if they wanted perfect credit.
