I have been legally seperated for a year and want my divorce. I have filed for it . My x gets alimony. I had to send in a new expense form to her attorney because now my x wants more money. Its been 5and1/2 weeks since i turned in the form. I called my attorney and all he had to say is that he hadnt heard from my x's attorney. I feel like my attorney isnt working for me at all. what do I do to speed this up?

If you don't feel your attorney is working for you, get a new one. But while she can't stop you, she can drag her feet and make it last.

She can sure make the process drag out. If she fights the terms of the divorce it can take awhile to go to court and all that fun stuff. Ultimately you will get the divorce but it may take awhile for it to be finalized by a judge. If you don't feel comfortable with the attorney you have working for then fire him and hire someone else. Just remember to have your new attorney advize you on ending the relationship with the old attorney. I would have told my attorney if he hadn't heard then you would appreciate it if he would call.

He can't stop you from filing or getting the divorce. The only thing he can do is hold it up by contesting it. But since you two are legally separated that might be the next step for you. You have to stay on your attorney's back in order to speed things up. Good luck.

No, your spouse cannot stop you from getting a divorce. It does sound like your attorney is not trying very hard. You may have to change attorneys.

ok you have two questions here - the first is you can get a contested divorce, it does take longer, and the rules vary by states, the second if you aren't happy with your attorney change to a different one, you don't want to get screwed over because he doesn't care

Depends on what country you live in.

You can't make her want a divorce.

Did you tell the truth about your income? Maybe they are taking their time to investigate you. Are you squeaky clean?

Ask your lawyer to find out the reason for the delay.
