Sounds like you had an episode of deja-vu. It's been studied in some detail, though not exhaustively. But basically, what happens is that the sensory input you're experiencing (visiting someplace new) somehow gets mis-connected to the recall center of your brain. The result is that you seem to have a recollection of being there before, but since you haven't, there aren't any actual memories to be recalled. Sometimes, in these cases where the brain is trying to recall a memory that isn't there, some people will instead recall a similar memory or dream and subconsciously "adjust" it to fit the current scenario. I've had deja-vu myself, it can be an interesting experience.
Alternative explanation: we simply live in a world of cookie-cutter houses, cookie-cutter malls & cookie-cutter towns, and maybe the place you hadn't been to before simply bore a good resemblance to someplace you had been before.

Hi,
I have had that feeling before, in a physical sense, but I was able to recall being there before. Your experince is similar to something I have had after a dream. I was walking with a man down a wood plank sidewalk in a western town, the year was in the late 1800's, he was the Deputy and I worked in the Dress Shop, we were boyfriend and girlfriend and very much in love. it was so realistic and he was absolutely gorgeous, but it makes me wonder about re-incarnation. I am a Christian and the Bible says there isn't any re-incarnation but I still wonder. I keep thinking I will go somewhere and it will be a place I've been before
once upon a dream. Sorry if that sounded corny.

According to many traditions we have been here before in many different bodies throughout time. Maybe that is true? Maybe you're seeing something you saw before in a different life and seeing it again brings back that memory of it.
I've had this happen to me before and it feels so strange and surreal. It's like I KNOW i've seen this before even though I've never seen this in my lifetime!
Also, I've had people I've met for the first time and it's as if I've known them before. I get that same familiar feeling I do with the person as I do with the seeing of a place.
Maybe we've all been here before since the beginning.
It's fascinating to ponder........
Great question.

There are many experiences in life that seem to govern situations relevant within our understanding of the universe. I have met a number of people who share an uncommpon closeness to me in thoughts and beliefs and our ability to relate to each other that is uncommon. There are no reasons for this closeness to exist, but I and many others have felt that perhaps in an earlier life, we were close to one another.
The Search for Bridey Murphy was a book written in the late 1950's or early 1960s that gave rise to the question of whether Bridey Murphy was an earlier life for a woman who seemed to recall events from a previous life in Ireland. The book was praised, and scorned as being a false memory, but such is the fate of all things controversial. But, many people have experienced such deja vu revelations. Are they, or we all crazy?

yes, i have felt it many times that way. it might be my imagination. it is like when we read a story book we imagin the situation & places we read. in the same way when we visit some places we would have imagined that place in our mind. & sometimes this imagination might tally with the reality. that is my theory . i really do not know the reason for sure.

Maybe in a previous life you have been there. No I haven't but I have been to places I didn't think I had been to but after awhile I start remembering that perhaps I had been there before.

It could have something to do with time travel you never know?
I right now have thought for the last 3mins and have no idea what else it could be, i no what you are talking about it happens to me sometimes.
Maybe it has to do with gentics?
Or.......
Maybe we can precive the future since we can percive the past.
That would explain the people who can tell the future?
