The stuff that turned out to be most important was the stuff for after the birth rather than during labor - during labor I was busy with getting my baby born. I didn't need CD's, crossword puzzle books and other stuff like that!
Be sure to pack a change of clothes (including undergarments) for both you and baby. It's nice to have socks to wear, too. If you're going to nurse bring a nursing bra and also a gown to wear after the birth that opens easily.
If you have a list of baby names, bring it too!
You might want to bring some light reading material for your husband if he'll be there. And snacks if there is no vending machien or complimentary stuff at the hospital or birthing center.
As far as electronics go.....a digital camera and or camcorder, a cell phone or a phone card.....
Important - if you are having the baby at a birthing center, you should bring extra diapers and wipes for baby.

You definetely want some good socks...your feet sometimes tend to get cold during labor, some music..most rooms now have CD players you can play music you like that could help you relax...or even motivate, change of clothes (but remember your not going to be your prepregnancy weight when you go home) a comfy pair of sweats is usually good, a couple changes of underwear, sanitary napkins because you will probably be bleeding and the ones in the hospital SUCK, a pair of pjs (sometimes the hospital will let you wear your own), outfit for baby, change for vending machines, and leave any valuables at home, camera and LOTS of film (unless you have a digital camera..then you dont need film), and/or video camera, baby book

I recommend that you pack a robe, slippers. socks, panties, overnight pads cuz the ones the hospital gives u are weird, PJ's, an outfit for when u leave and one that u want to bring your child home in. Money for food and/or the number of restaurants u like so you can order food and have someone pick them up because after i gave birth i was still hungry after i ate what the provided.

Your underwear (the hospital ones are terrible...get the inexpensive granny pants) your own sanitary pads (nicer than the hospital) take home outfit for baby (perwashed) receiving blankets. Take snacks for your partner...and change for the vending machine. Slippers and socks are nice as well as your own nightclothes...a nursing nighty is noce (makes it easier to nurse) and a nursing bra (boobs gett very heavy if your milk comes in right away.

i exploit a Bayou Billy stay bait saver. those kits are offered at Walmart and it suits right into a 40 quart ice chest. The device runs on a 12 volt battery. I rather have saved bait alive for each week in the process fishing tournaments.

Of course and outfit for you and one for the baby. PADS the hospital brand sucks, toothbrusth, toothpaste, shoes to wear home (my feet got really swollen after I gave birth), and what ever you do......do not forget a hair brush! I forgot one when I went in labor with my daughter and the hospital brought me one that pulled almost all my hair out!!! GOOD LUCK

gown and robe for you, home-going clothes for baby, and baby blanket, slippers for you, extra hygiene pads (hospital will give some but you may have your own preference), if you prefer to go home in regular clothes make sure they have extra room to not aggrevate your sensitive skin. snacks for you and partner. extra pocket change for vending machines. (there will be nite time snacking :).
