I do people argue that the weren`t that heavy but we are talking about the early 1970`s the were also the guys who first struck fear into the hearts of people who listened to country, disco, big bands they enhanced the image that black sabbath(unargueably a metal band)tried to set themselves then. Tell me what you think and rock on.

YES!!! In the 70's and early 80's they definitely fit the bill. They may have strayed a little bit for a period of time, but they are definitely a metal band!!!

I'm going to say they're more Hard Rock than Metal, based on today's music. Back in the 70s, they were Metal because there was no real point of comparison. Nowadays, you have Pantera (okay, HAD Pantera), White Zombie, etc. Those are harder than Kiss, therefore making Kiss Hard Rock and them Heavy Metal.

I think, because of Gene Simmons, that they are more of a propoganda then a band! They were a rock and roll band when they first debut years ago, but over the years, merchandising and materialism has gotten the better of them. Well, I do not know about the other three becuase I usually see Gene being the pitch man who sells just about every and anything that has the KISS label attached to it.
He pretty much sold himself and his band to corporate America.

Neither KISS nor Sabbath were metal bands. Sabbath was just a heavy classic rock band, and KISS were hard rock with a touch of glam.

I think they are not pure metal but definately an influence on later metal. They and Black Sabbath are the founders of metal. If you look at guns and roses and Kiss, you see many similarities. But they arent pure metal. However, they do have all of the personal qualities of a metal band (just look at Gene Simmons and you will see what I mean.)

Glam metal from hard rock. Personally, if there is an earbreaking playing of the guitar, that music is considered (heavy) metal. Definitely not grunge metal.

I don't consider KISS a metal band. Thet are more like a meatl influenced mainstream rock band.
They don't have a metal band attitude, they are not pissed off, they are not anti system or anti anything. They sing about love, break ups, girlfriend, band mate love, etc etc...

Overall I think they are not a very good band, they don't represent anything special. They did have a crazy impact on average people thou.

They're a hard rock band. Metal is more like Metallica and Pantera.
