Monday my doctor checked me and said I was around 2 cm dialated and still a little long. He also said she was already turned. I've been having false contractions but they are getting stronger by the day...What does still a little long mean and how long do you think it will take for me to go into labor???

A little long probably means the baby still has a few inches to drop or your cervix hasn't completely compressed. You'll probably go into labor any day now. It sounds like it's time. I'd wait until the contractions are five to ten minutes apart before going to the hospital. Some people go too soon and it takes hours and hours for the actual delivery to happen. Good luck! and Congratulations on your new little one!

The cervix starts to shorten and thin, in addition to dilating. That's what your doc was referring to.

Just because you are dilated 2 cm and having lots of practice contractions does not mean labor is imminent though or that you have to go get checked out. It could be days or WEEKS away. You will know when you get the real contractions that over time get worse.

Dilation and effacement of the cervix is not a reliable indicator of when labor will start because in some women this process happens over weeks...and for other women it happens very quickly right before labor starts.

I have always dilated gradually and had lots of contractions in the weeks preceeding my labors.

A little long means that your cervix is still low, like it's not effaced yet, when it's fully effaced it shrinks up I guess...so instead of being hard and long it's flat and soft. You can be dilated for weeks before you go into labor. Have you dropped? Feeling like you can breath again, having to pee a lot again...that's a good indicator, losing your mucus plug, although you may not notice that. Depends on your body, no one can say for sure. I was dilated to 4 with my son for a week or more. I was dilated only to 1 with my daughter and I went into full blown hard *** labor without warning. So...never know!! Good luck I hope the baby comes soon!!!

You were not thinned out...the cervix but if the contractions are getting stronger I suggest you going to L&D at the hospital and get checked...things could have changed in a couple of days since your doctor checked you.

I was dilated to a 2 1/2 for three weeks. I had contractions all the time, and it didn't get me to the hospital any sooner.
They will get here when they are good and ready.

From all you're describing, you're in hard artwork. Timed contractions 3 to 5 minutes aside are a solid sign. additionally, the bloody coach is very indicative that onerous artwork has all started. because that's your third new child, your hard artwork may well be progressing on the instant. If the timed, generic contractions provide up, i could nonetheless stay in close touch with your midwife. solid success!

ur cervix. i really dont know the exact length of one. but let's juss say it's an inch for now.once it thins out/softens(becoming effaced) then it shrinks down and becomes smaller until it eventually "disappears"(100% effaced). and with the whole how long will it take.u never know.it all depends on when this babi is ready to come out. it can happen in 5 mins...or days.

You have a long way to go.

Usually your water will break or you'll pass the mucous plug before they even want to see you in the hospital.

However, if you start getting severe back pains, or feel like if you could just go (like you're incredibly constipated feeling) you'd feel better.....go to the hospital. You don't want to deliver the baby in the toilet....
