Always brand ultra thin with wings. It keeps you dry and doesn't feel like a diaper. The thicker kinds work ok too, but they feel like a diaper. Also, if the reason that you cant wear tampons is religion, please disregard this next part. If you cant use tampons because you are a virgin, there are two specific types that you can use. If you are younger than 15, then i suggest Playtex slimfits. I used those when i was 11-15. If you are older than 15, then Tampax pearl might be good, but it HAS to be Tampax PEARL, all of the other ones by Tampax are way too big.

To be perfectly honest and sincere, I use Bodyform with the wings. Wings are good coz they stop leakage over the side. As for whether you use super, regular or light, its up to what your bleeding is like. You may like to differ your pads over the cycle. Hope that helps.

It depends on personal choice but either homemade or cloth pads are the best to go for because they are the safest, cheapest and most environmentally friendly, as well as this they are very comfortable, far more so than commercial or organic sanitary pads.
Lunapads are the better known brand; they also have a very nice thin design that makes them very well made so very comfortable and keeps them in good condition for a long time. HagRags and Urban Armor are good, mostly because they have the 'hip' factor; although Lunapads have some good fabric prints (like leopard skin print) these brands have more choice in pretty looking pads. These are all US based companies but there are some good UK based cloth pad companies as well such as Plushpants or Red Moon. All you can buy online, but a lot of health stores sell cloth pads as well. Homemade pads are easy enough to use, same benefits as cloth pads, however added bonus that they are even cheaper, easy to get a hold of, more choice in fabrics and something crafty to do on a rainy day.

Organic pads would be the second option, these are disposable like commercial pads but do not contain the harmful chemicals or materials that commercial pads contain, they are also organic and bio-degradable so better for both health and environment. The only company making these at the moment are Natracare, who do a load of really cool things in terms of social-responsibility with schools programs, also they are widely available online, in health stores or from Boots stores.

If you cannot use tampons (commercial tampons are the most harmful out of 20+ menstrual options, you really wouldn't want to wear them), have you thought about other options such as menstrual cups, softcups, padded panties, or free-flow methods?

----------------------------------------------

Reasons to avoid commercial pads (e.g. Always, Kotex, etc.):

On average woman will go through around 12,000 pads in her lifetime which is a lot of waste, commercial pads are made from non bio-degradable materials and plastics, as well as made from only 30% of the trees cut down to produce the material to make the pads, non-organic cotton and are treated unnecessarily with bleaches and chemicals that not only pollute but also require large amounts of energy to use in manufacturing.

Commercial pads are made from synthetics and plastics that do not allow air to get to the vagina and vulva, which results in a moist warm area where natural vaginal yeast can happily get on with growing out of control leading to infection and irritation. Commercial pads are treated unnecessarily with bleaches and chemicals to make them whiter under the idea that in making women believe ultra-white products are needed to deal with 'dirty' menses companies can keep customers using their products, playing on social taboos making women feel negatively about their bodies. These chemicals and bleaches can interfere with vaginal PH; this in turn messes with healthy bacterial and yeast balance that can lead to infections. They also contain absorbent cores or super-absorbent materials that increase TSS risk.
Companies are legally protected so they do not have to tell customers what chemicals are used so these could be anything with any number of health risks, because the vulva and vagina are made up of mucosa they do not have the protective layer that skin does meaning these chemicals are more easily absorbed into the body.
