In addition, you may want to spray pressurized air in through the motor to get out the dust & lint. A can of computer cleaner will do fine.

Most fans made these days are designed to be disassembled so that the major parts (screen and blades) can be cleaned. If in doubt, contact - uh, really, I'm not sure what business might clean fans but a hardware store would be a good place to start. Be prepared for some unkind snickers, though.

Usually there are just screws holding the fan guards in place. You can just remove these guards and wipe the fan blades with a damp rag. I am assuming this is an electric fan so when it comes to the electric motor, use a dry rag only. You may also try blowing the motor off with compressed air or CO2.

You can usually take it apart to clean it. I wash the grill, blade, and other parts that are safe to wash. Once dry, I re-assemble it and it's good to go.

However, I do have one fan where the grills cannot be removed. On that fan, I do the best I can with Q-tips.

Unplug it. Then open the holder and take out the blade and wipe it with a damp cloth. Wipe the holders with a cloth. Take the fan outside and do it.

Unplug it and take it apart and clean it. If you cant take it apart, it's usually cheaper to go buy a new one then to have it cleaned professionally.
