I don't think anybody is saying the government can't do anything
right. I hear a few people saying that our current President, but
that doesn't account for the entire government.
There are also a ton of things that the government, in my
opinion, should be doing but they aren't doing them well
(and sometimes the biggest reason for that is underfunding).
To the degree it is funded, Medicare and social security
actually work pretty well. I'm not saying that there aren't
abuses of the system (there are), or that it is bureaucratically
streamline (anything but), but the concept has kept millions
of people above the poverty line.
If you want to lower taxes, the thing to do is to make the
government work better - and the ONLY way you are going
to get that to happen is if you figure out how to allow it to
lay off employees that are no longer needed and fire people
who aren't competent.
Right now, short of commiting a crime or leaving on your
own accord: Once you work for the government, you'll have
a job for life.
This won't be fixed by cutting taxes - in fact, that just makes
the problem worse because the employees still get paid so
that the individual departments have no money left other than
labor costs.
Throwing more money will help, for awhile, but the system
just gets more bloated.
No, the best thing to do is to figure out a way for the government
to be able to fire from within and still adhere to anti-discriminatory
laws, etc.
That, I believe, is the impossible dream for Democrat,
Republican, Conservative or Liberal.
Corporations have a huge advantage: The axe.

The Government does what it wants, how it wants, with whom and when it wants. We The People have no say. If you think we elect our officials into office you are sorely mistaken. The powers that be...get thier hand picket buddies into office via lobbyists and the Electorial College. That still happens because nobody wants to believe that thier vote doesn't count. I don't want the government to be in charge of a whole hell of a lot, but who's gonna change it....The People? The Government does exactly what it believes is RIGHT for the present Administration, always has and always will.

Clearly you people are in the US.
In Canada we have health insurance for everyone (unless one is a visitor, or has just immigrated in which case there is a waiting period). It has its problems - what doesn't? - but it also means that NO insurance company is going to say "we aren't going to cover you because you have -- any preexisting condition"; "we aren't going to cover you any longer because you have developed Huntingdon's and your care is going to be too expensive for us, it will eat into our profits"; "we'll cover you but because you have had cancer - or are old - your premiums are going to be $3,000 a month"; "we are not going to cover the new drug/test/treatment because our accountant tells us the old one is cheaper even though we know it doesn't work nearly as well"..
We do not have 45 million people without coverage - we don't have 45,000,000, period - and we do not have large numbers of people who have lost their house, their job, their savings, because someone in the family became seriously ill.
We DO have problems with our health insurance; guess what? It's to be expected. There is NO perfect system, there is NOTHING that will please everyone, there will ALWAYS be some problems, misdiagnoses, failed opportunities to cure someone.
But we have a system that works, that allows us to sleep soundly because we do not have worries about where the money for the doctor/radiologist/surgeon is going to come from.

Goverment under Bush,
has botched many many things.
The Government can also accomplish great things.....for example you get mail.
but this adminstration currently in charge of the government doesn't want to give healthcare.
under Clinton, the government did right by its people.....So yes i would rather have Healthcare than no healthcare.

Those who are providers of Health Care in the United States need to be mandated to create a viable Health Care system which protects the health and secure the wellness of the citizens as a whole. The AMA needs to be pressed to initiate a solution to the precarious and dismal situation which exists today. They know Health Care; they should be able to come to a mutually agreed plan as to how it will work.

Maybe we need to elect a government that CAN do something right and let THEM be in charge of health care.

i don't want them to be in charge of my health care. That should be my financial responsibiltiy. Why would I put someone in charge for health care that bills me for $100 toothbrush or $250 for 3 tylnol. I would rather bring my own. I want to do what is best for my body...not let the government decide what is best for me.

Except for national defense, the US government is fairly inept. I do not want government, at any level, interfering in health care. We already have too many state and federal regulations that apply to healt care and health insurance.

They don't have to be in charge of it, but they can pass legislation requiring healthcare accessible to everyone.
