yes, but if they've played long enough they can be taken out for a pinch hitter but hte next inning they would have to put in a new pitcher

They have to bat if they stay in the game to keep pitching but the manager can pinch hit for the pitcher once the pitcher is about to leave the game

No player in baseball ever HAS to bat, but they cannot return to the lineup if they are taken out for a pinch hitter.
