. Roll back drivers in the Windows XP operating system.

To perform a driver roll back, perform the following steps:

Click the Start button, right-click My Computer, and then left-click Properties.
The System Properties window appears.

Click the tab labeled Hardware, and then click the button labeled Device Manager.
The Device Manager window appears.

Once in the Device Manager, click to navigate to the device you wish to restore the previous drivers for.

Double-click the device name to highlight the device.
The Device Properties window appears.

Click the Driver tab, and then click the Roll Back Driver button.

NOTE: If there are no backed up drivers for this device (such as when the device is using drivers native to Windows® XP, or when the drivers have never been updated), the system will display a dialogue box informing you that no driver files have been backed up for this device.

A window appears and asks if you are sure you want to roll back the driver.

Click Yes to continue the driver roll back process.
The system rolls back the driver.

NOTE: There will be no visual indication that this process is happening.

Once the roll back is finished, the system will return to the properties window

I had to do one on my Dell this week due to some adware junk. If you are running 98 or XP, this should work

1. Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
2. Under Pick a Task, click Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
3. Follow the instructions on the wizard.

or
1. Click Start.
2. Point to All Programs.
3. Point to Accessories.
4. Point to System Tools.
5. Click System Restore.
6. Follow the instructions on the wizard.

I'm assuming that you don't want to completely re-install Windows, and that you just want to restore your system to an earlier date. If that's the case, do the folloowing:
1. Re-boot your pc and tap the F8 key while it's rebooting.
2. Choose "Safe Mode" when the menu shows on your monitor.
3. Once that's done, click on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then System Restore
4. From the resulting window, check that a "bullet" is in the choice for "Restore My Computer To An Earlier Time", choose the date you want to restore the files from, and follow the instructions from there.
5. When the system has been restored, exit from Safe Mode and reboot into the regular Windows startup. Good luck.

system restore isn't the same as system recover...system restore keeps all ur files, it just brings it back to the way it was at a certain date, but with dell computers, there is an option on the very first screen u see...the button is like F10 or F7...or F5...im not sure, i haven't had a dell in a while, but pay attention when u turn on ur computer cuz the screen is only on for about 2 seconds and you have to press the button when that screen is on...good luck

Are you intending to restore from the Dell Recovery CD or perform a Windows system restore?

Ok! Go to the START menu, click PROGRAMS, click on ACCESSORIES, click SY STEM TOOLS and finally select SYSTEM RESTORE. Then follow the steps. It works like a charm if your system has not been infected, since any previous problem as of the DATE selected will be restored. Final note: when doing the system restore, choose a date you are confortable with, the earliest possible before the system problem that is forcing you to do the restore.
