I think men tip better than women in general, because women are always underpaid and overworked and I think they have less sympathy for other women because they like to spend money on themselves and it's never enough; whereas men are used to parting with thiers.

Married women would probably be the worst tippers in my guestimation because they likely go out the least often and don't really give a hoot about tipping someone who has been nagging them during the whole meal about whether or not "everything is fine"!!!! :~)

Hey! I'm a pretty GOOD tipper! I leave between 50-100%. I've had MANY crappy jobs in my life and have dealt with non- and lousy tippers, too!

Sometimes I'll leave a $10.00 tip for a $7.00 lunch. Who ever invented the 15% rule anyway? What's a waiter/ess gonna do with a 90 cent tip...just because the meal was inexpensive but the service great?

Conversely...why should I automatically give $30.00 to a crappy waiter/ess just because he/she works at an overpriced restaurant?

The tipper has not had a job where they had to work for tips, they don't realize that is how people earn a living.

On the other hand the server or person receiving the tip is not doing the job with a smile on their face.

Lastly, the tipper has no money.

I think some people are crappy tippers simply because they have never worked in the restaurant business. Some people, no matter how great the service, just tip poorly...and it's sad and frustrating, but they just don't get it.

Generally because they are cheap. If you ask them they'll give a reason like:

1. The restautant should pay the server a proper wage.
2. I refuse to be forced into tipping the "proper amount".
3. I work hard for my money and no one gives me a tip.
4. I only tip for exceptional service (i.e. the service practically gives them a hummer at the table).
5. I don't tip on tax.
6. I forgot to leave the tip.
7. The food cost too much so I won't tip as much.
8. The food was bad so I won't tip as much.

The list goes on and on... I personally think that the world would be a better place if everyone one at one point in his or her life had to support themselves with a job where the income was based on tips.

If they are habitually bad tippers, I'm guessing it's because they've never worked in the service industry, and have no empathy for those who do. I did and I'm a good tipper. My wife didn't and she's not.

No one tips me at my job. So why do waiters think they should be tipped. In my book HELL no. If you do not like your job then find another one. I was at Olive Garden two weeks ago. Middle of the afternoon. We ordered our drinks. When our pop was empty we then had to tell the waiter we wanted to order. She did not come and ask us. So we ordered. First she brought out our main course, then after that the salad. I asked her three times about bread sticks and she kept saying you never said you wanted them when I took your order. I said they come with the meal. So ten minutes later she came back with a basket of three breadsticks for five people. They were burnt and you could not bite into them. So finally I had to walk around to track her down to hell. She goes oh yes the cook told me over cooked them. But the place is not busy enough for him to put in a fresh pan. I asked to speak to a manager and was told the manager had left. We left furrious. I paid the bill and the bill for five people was over $150.00. I do not care if this lady was new or if she had been there a while. There was no reason for the poor service, burnt breadsticks and the order the food was served. That waitress did not get a tip from me. I called a few days later and reported it to teh manager. I refuse to ever step foot into olive garden again. If you do not get a tip its because you do not deserve one. You get paid an hourly wage like I do, and on one tips me.

because they've never worked in the food service industry and dealt with the idiots that come through the door to eat at their establishment. I'm sure if more people waited tables they'd see exactly what types of people they have to put up with.
I cringe when I see teenagers, most old people and black women sitting at my table...those are most known for running you amuck, treating you like trash and then leaving you nothing or next to nothing.
I thank God that most people tip pretty good honestly, and I know I'm an excellent server with great customer service skills and personality...so I don't usually take it personal. There are just losers out there who think the world owes them and treat most everyone they run into like crap. Too bad they don't realize that what goes around comes around. *wink*

some people are just cheap.....my brother leaves one dollar......maybe 3 at like a Red Lobster......other people (me) who are usually great tippers.....like 20%, at least, leave poor tips because we received poor service. and it is the SERVICE, mind you....not the kitchen, the food, the screaming kids beside us....SERVICE. be nice, get better money is the way i see it. if everyone tips you badly, maybe you need to find something else.
sorry to say it like that, but not everyone tips badly. you should see a little of both.

Actually, if my boyfriend really likes the service we leave a 50% tip. If not, 20%. I don't consider either crappy.
