Single mothers seem to have everyone's support and compassion, but when it comes to a man's role in raising his own child/children, the subject becomes taboo.

If I'm wrong, please prove me so.

Since we don't hear much about single dads I would say they are not appreciated enough at all. Obviously, awareness has to be elevated. Women are "heard" on these issues but I do not think you would want women in on it. Quite a conundrum.

I would say yes. I once knew a guy that my husband worked with. His girlfriend died in a motorcycle wreck (she was kind of wild) and she had no family anywhere on earth, so he was somehow able to adopt her two small children. Sometimes the little girl would have on a frilly dress with dirty tennis shoes, but he loved those kids and devoted his life to making sure they had what they needed. If you are a single dad and you do the best for your child- you are awesome in my book! You deserve the same respect as a single mom, because it is not easy.

If you are looking for comfort and appreciation from society then you will always come away empty handed.
Society probably is that way...and it is sad. i never did get along with society.
I don't know if you are wrong or not as my dad left before i was born and my mom took care of me and my siblings as best she could. I would be proud to have a father that raised me with out any help, or raised me at all for that matter.

I tend to appreciate single fathers more than single mothers. Single mothers are a dime a dozen, but it seems rare to find a father willing to take on parenting alone.

there are so many single moms. i know of one single dad, who has sole custody. if more dads took on that role, the situation would be reversed. i guess also it is because in every society, men make more money so it would be easier financially for a man to raise a child alone. single dads are appreciated, well i appreciate them. i am a single mom. i dont feel appreciated. so you are not alone,

Unfortunately, by and large, I think they have to prove themselves because so many "deadbeat" dads run out on their children and they really stand out from the good ones.
