The Koran requires that women cover their hair. If you read the Old Testament, God asks that women cover their heads, partly because a woman's hair is her crowning glory, partly respect. Orthodox Jewish, Greek and Russian women and Amish, Mennonite and others all cover their heads for this reason, some only in church, some all the time.

but it is normal for women to wear the shawls after they have had there menstruation (u know the red)

it is part of Muslim law, that a woman (married or unmarried, dosen't make a difference)can't walk around with her head uncovered, in some Muslim countries they have to wear a shawl over their entire BODIES! (over their clothes, especially in public)

Its because, if they don't wear it they will be considered "whores" by their cultural standards. Its religion designed to oppress and control society.
