....Which is now said to be leaking and / or rotting...We Paid (as taxpayers) to build it...for our security and benefit...Only a small percentage of the nations fuel oil comes through it.....most is sold to Japan..and other countries as processed fuels...we deal with the toxic results....so now...WHY do WE have to pay even higher fuel costs...to fix it????Why not the companies who profit from it??? Didn't they figure the cost of maintenance??? When Your lawn mower breaks...does your neighbor pay for it??? REMEMBER way back in Boston Harbor...That little party over TAX on Tea??.....Time to do it again..

The higher fuel prices aren't paying for the pipeline: it's more than likely a matter of supply and demand. Less gas available means prices can be raised (or gouged, depending on your point of view.)

BP should be taken to task for doing less maintenance on their pipeline than any of the other oil companies doing drilling in Alaska. However, I'm sure the oil companies will be appearing before Congress sooner rather than later, hat in hand, asking for government help to repair the pipes. >:( It's the same old story for American businesses: privatize the profit, socialize the risk.

Actually your Mistaken. The highest amount of oil in any one year ever exported from the Alaskan Pipeline was 7%. This did go to Japan, China, and several other countries I can't remember. They talked about this very issue on the radio this morning. Nobody knows exactly how this RUMOR got started but its taken on a mind of its own. Even FOX was reporting MOST of the oil is exported. And its simply not true.

First, the Alaskan Pipeline is not leaking. Nothing is leaking. Corrosion has been found in the smaller pipelines from the wellheads that feed the Alaskan Pipeline. BP is paying for their inspection and repair.
