This is what did it for me. I started with one nail that I wanted to grow. I wore a band-aid around it until it was fully grown, well trimmed, strong, and surrounded by good cuticle. Then I moved on to the next nail. The first nail was so fine and smooth that I had no compulsion to bite it. (I did continue to bite the other nails.) This I continued one nail at a time until the last nail was done. I did find the last two nails to be very difficult going. The first 8 were actually pretty easy. I would suggest leaving the last couple nails to those that you don't easily see -- maybe the baby fingers (although I left the index fingers to last).
Once in a while I will bite on one finger, but that's where it always seems to stop. I just try to keep the nails well-trimmed and smooth.

Hi I'm a professional nail technician. The hard truth is, you have to decide you really want to quit and then you have to make yourself do it. Its just like breaking any other addiction. You can put stinky or bad tasting stuff on your nails but if you want to bite them bad enough, that won't make a bit of difference. I don't know how old you are but if you are over 15 or so, you could have artificial nails put (NEVER EVER try to put them on yourself, you can do serious, permanant damage to your nail and they won't stay on very well besides) but in the end, if you want to bite your nails, you will bite the acrylic (or whatever enhancement you get) right off your nails and then you could hurt yourself and you've wasted money.
Bottom line - its just like quitting smoking or overeating. You have to REALLY WANT to quit. Then you have to make yourself. There is no easy way out. The reason nothing ever works is because you have gone into quitting thinking that some product will do it for you. You have to do it yourself.

Put a string on your wrist tied to a bell. Everytime the bell rings, remember, do not bite your nails.
I used to have a really bad habit of biting my nails all the way down. I think I stopped when I started working alot, because my hands were always on the keyboard.
But, try it, it's self disipline mostly, but also like Pavlov's dog. The bell will ring when you bring your hand to your mouth you will helplessly think "I'm not supposed to bite my nails" and you won't do it.

I had that habit for years, and it's a hard thing to break.
Go and splash out some money on yourself.
Buy a nice nail-file. Get a bottle of under-coat, and a bottle of over-coat, and a colour you LOVE to go inbetween. Make sure you don't get anything quick-drying.
I still am tempted to bite mine when I'm stressed.
Get hold of a bottle of Sally Hansen 'Nail Growth Miracle' - it really does make your nails stronger and grow longer - about £9 a bottle, but well worth it, and cheaper than daft manicures!
You'll spend so much doing your nails, that you won't want to bite them for fear of spoiling them!

There's actually some nail-polish stuff you can put on your nails that make them taste horrible if you bite them. You can get that and put them on your nails... the only trick is, you have to put it on all the time. You can try that, it worked for my friend really well... after a month or so of that, you should be fine. ^_^

I'm 14 and I bit my nails until last year when I had acrylic nails put on, you can't bite those. After a while I just didn't but them anymore.

in 5th grade my new years resolution was to stop biteing my nails. and i'm going into 9th grade now..i havnt bite them again since. their long and strong now. but if u dont have my will power try a polish they have at your local store. its for nail biters. it has a bad taste in it so when you lick or bite your nails you'll say EWWW GROSE and stop. or u could try soaking them in tobasko sause. or just remind yourself of all the germs your putting in your mouth. and all the bacteria your putting on your nails which could cause fungus. Oh also try to keep painting your nails, keep them looking really nice. You wouldn't want to bite nails that look really nice.

The common suggestion is to put really nasty tasting stuff on your nails to dissuade you....some say put a rubber band around your wrist and when you get the urge to bite (or catch yourself biting them) snap it real hard...
Take a look at your hands...biting the nails doesn't make for pretty fingers...that in itself should be some deterrent...
Good luck!

Get fake nails, it worked for me, because you can't bite those off! Once you get used to them (and it might take a while) you probably won't bite your own nails anymore once the others come off.
