people HAVE right to express their opinion that you chose wrongly. you too may feel that you want to thumbdown a best answer that you find wrong.

indeed i often find best answers that are seriously wrong, sometimes even dangerous to follow. then i thumb them down and add a comment "sorry, but this is untrue because..."

people should not take it personally that their answer was not chosen. that is a different story.

however i agree with you that the best answer you had in mind was perfectly correct - so i gave it a thumbsup :) i hope you dnt mind : ) cause now it has 11 thumbsups and one thumbsdown.

Perhaps someone felt there was a better choice out there. Some people have openly admitted to giving a thumbs down to any answer that was not their own. Personally, I have given a few. Mostly when the answer was b/s aimed at telling the asker what they wanted to hear, instead of the truth. 20 people answer the question the same way, and one person kisses the askers behind and gets best answer. I stay away from those kinds of questions now.

Looking at your questions, I think I get it. Someone gave an answer, but someone else came along and said previous answer is correct. You gave the second person the points. Perhaps because more info was given. I expect the thumbs down came from the first person who gave the answer.

Bonus points to you for at least choosing a best answer and not putting it out for a vote.

I gave a thumbs down to a best answer when an asker was wanting to know how to fell a large tree. The answer he chose was not only BS but technically incorrect and downright dangerous. Lets use a bit of common sense here people.

If you get a thumbs down on an answer you selected, you probably selected an answer that was untrue or misleading. The thumbs down signals to you that you might want to reconsider the advice you received in the answer you selected.
