Question About Card Services?

Question

I am a front desk receptionist for a company and every single day I get a call from someone saying they are Mr. or Mrs. so and so from Card Services and never say what company, and they ask for my co-worker. My co-worker says to put them into voice mail and they hang up. Could this be a sales call or a collection call?

I would guess it was to apply for a credit card if it is not for an existing account
