Example-Pay, Benifits, Lifestyle, Where I may be going, possibility of being sent to Iraq, and also any good jobs in these branches.
Thx.
What Im intrested is in, being able to stay in North Carolina, thats why I was looking at Coast Guard or CG reserves.

20+ years in the Coast Guard, retired as a Senior Chief Boatswain Mate.

Served all over the world from Japan to Antarctica.

Pay and benefits are the same as the rest of the services. Plus, we are the only service that has a day job other than preparing for war.

Because we are a small service (Most units less than 30 people), you get a lot of responsibility real quick.

It is possible to make E-6 in under 6 years in most ratings, people are still retiring out of the AF as an E-6.

I think they still issue pajamas in AF boot camp.

What ever you join, move away from home for a few years, get an education and learn how other people and places are, otherwise you may as well just be the night clerk at the local Wallyworld.

Feel free to contact me.

I was in the army, army national guard, and the navy. I had also looked into the coast guard for a while. I think of all the branches, the air force is probably the way to go. It will be the closest to living a civilian lifestyle while being in the military. There are tons of resources online that have the military pay scale listed. What you make just depends on your rank and time in service. If you have any college credits or can get some buddies to join with you, you can enter at a higher rank. Certain military jobs will let you do that as well. For example, I went into the navy as a nuclear machinists mate and you can hit E-5 very quickly in that program. If you want to stay where you are at, the guard or the reserves are a great way to do it. I really enjoyed my time in the army national guard. One weekend a month, 2 weeks in the summer, and you still get a ton of money for college if that is what you are looking for.

Was in the Air Force for several years. We had the highest standard of living of any of the services by far. The pay chart is available at www.af.mil It's a great life if you're single, when you're married and have kids the travel might take its toll on you.

If you join the military be prepared to move and move often. Even the CG can send you to different places. If staying near home is so important to you then I don't think the military or even CG is the choice for you.

If you join the Coast Guard, you certainly won't go to Iraq. If you join any military, you probably won't be able to stay in NC.

a recruiter would be best to ask about those things.
the reason is b/c even if you talk to someone in those branches, they aren't going to know every job out there or what those jobs pay islike etc....

i'd find some recuiters and talk to them. if you want to stay in the states, then i'd check coast guard first.
