I am Christian but I support Isreal and its attacks against Hezbollah. Can I call myself a Zionist without offending Jewish people?

I'm a Jewish Zionist woman that doesn't reside in Israel right now. And if you want to call youself a Zionist, its great by me.

A Zionist is usually a person who is Jewish and that believes that Zion - meaning Israel is the home of the Jewish people. There are also Jewish people that are not Zionists, meaning the are Jewish, they don't live in Israel, and they don't necessarily believe that all Jewish people should live in Israel. On the same logic even if you are not Jewish, but you believe in the right of Zion to exist - why not - call yourself Zionist - not only I'm not offended I'm honored. I'm also happy to here that not all the western world is being led by the media to believe that the Jewish people don't belong in the middle east, that they belong to Europe and should return to Europe (remember the Holocaust). The actual truth is that half of the Jewish Israelis came from surrounding Arab countries (actually expelled from surrounding Arab countries to Israel) So Israelis do belong in the middle east, at least half of them. The other half - the European Jews - are definitely were invited by their brothers!!!

There are many non-Jewish Christians that support Israel in their fight against Hezbollah...but that does not make them Zionists. If "Chels" answer is an example of the Jewish temperament and outlook, it seems as if Israel will always be at war... peace starts inside the person... and goes out from there, no matter if you are Jewish or Christian.

Zionism: Jewish movement that arose in the late 19th century in response to growing anti-Semitism and sought to reestablish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Modern Zionism is concerned with the support and development of the state of Israel. I am a Christian and I am in favor of the established State of Israel. So, I guess I'm a Zionist.

As a Jewish-American, I certainly have no problem with you calling yourself a Zionist. However, I urge you to look into what Israel is doing in Lebanon (beyond what you hear in the mass media) and certainly, for the sake of Jewish people in Israel and abroad, do not support Israel unequivocably.

You can call yourself a zionist. A zionist is someone who believes that the jewish people should have a homeland in israel...

although why a people need a state of their own where they can treat jews better than everyone else is beyond me. It's like we didn't learn our lesson from WWII, racism is wrong, and treating people differently based on race/religion is wrong. And that's exactly what the purpose of israel is defined as. I strongly suggest you re think your position on what is right and wrong in this case... israel has no laws respecting equality for people of different races, and they refuse to let the palestinians have a voice in government (occupied territories can't vote unless you're jewish and living in a settlement), or have their own country, yet they tax them and bomb their cities for suspected terrorists. "no taxation without representation", sound familliar?

Yes. I'm not one, but if you want to be one, I respect that.

The reason is that the simplest and most common, non conspiratorial, definition is that of a person that believes in the right of Jews to have a homeland of their own, especially where Israel currently resides, and possibly over a broader expanse. Most would know what you mean and, if they are on your side or indifferent, not be offended by you calling yourself a Zionist.

You can't be a Jew or a Zionist without being racist because like the NAZI Aryans they believe that they are the chosen people of G'd.
