I used to get those kinds of pains and found that what prevents them is eating acidic fruits, such as tomatoes, strawberries, and raspberries during your period. For some reason, that keeps the cramps away. Another thing that works is to drink lots of water and stay away from sodas during your period.

You mileage may vary...

I'm a bodyworker. A friend showed me this for treating menstrual cramps and every woman I've done this with so far (who was having cramps) said it helped. Some said it helped a little, some said it was dramatically better.

If you know anatomy or a friend who does or a good bodyworker, try this:

Lie on your stomach. Take a couple deep breaths. Have your friend/bodyworker put slow & deep pressure in your butt muscles (obturator internus or piriformis muscles, feel for the tight spots) and work gently yet firmly with slow deep breaths to help release the tension there. Do this in a couple different spots on each side of your butt and see if it helps.

Another friend of mine swears by half of a pain pill.

Soak in a hot tub, put a heating pad to your low back (not your abdomen) Midol. There are some homeopathic remedies in the health food stores. Ask there for some suggestions.

MAKE A TEA OUT OF RUE LEAVES. MIX IT WITH CAMOMILLE FLOWERS FOR A MORE CLEANSING PERIOD. THE RUE WORKS LIKE MAGIC. YOU CAN FIND IT AT ANY LATINO STORE OR YOU CAN BUY FRESH PLANTS AT MOST FLOWER SHOPS.
